The Study of Psychedelics in Society and Culture will approach the field from a range of humanistic and social scientific viewpoints including law, policy, ethics, religion and spirituality, the nature of consciousness, and art and literature.

The Center for the Study of World Religions (CSWR) at Harvard Divinity School leads the Transcendence and Transformation (T&T) Initiative, supported by the Gracias Foundation and focused on the interplay between psychedelics, spirituality, and ethics. The T&T Initiative reflects the Center’s dedication to exploring religious and spiritual practices through diverse programming and scholarly engagement. The CSWR fosters a community of scholars and practitioners, promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration across Harvard and beyond. Our current programming includes the annual Psychedelic Intersections conference, long-running Psychedelics and the Future of Religion speaker series, new Psychedelics and Ethics speaker series, walking tours of the History of Psychedelics at Harvard, and art exhibits.

Law and Psychedelics
The Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School’s mission is to promote interdisciplinary analysis and legal scholarship in these fields. The Center has grown into a leading research program dedicated to the unbiased legal and ethical analysis of pressing questions facing health policymakers, medical professionals, patients, families, and others who influence and are influenced by healthcare and the healthcare system.

Humanities and Psychedelics
The Mahindra Humanities Center is a crossroads for interdisciplinary discussions among Harvard faculty, faculty from other area institutions, graduate students, undergraduates, and the public. The MHC seeks to foster collaborations between the humanities, social sciences, and sciences in the belief that the humanities make a unique contribution in establishing—through interpretation and conversation—communities of interest and climates of opinion.
